Time For Change

 

The EarthBox® gardening system team has implemented a rooftop garden with 150 boxes which is at a home called ‘Time for Change’ in downtown Jozi, the home caters for amongst others, street kids and former commercial sex workers, which is proudly sponsored by PPC. The individuals at the home are benefiting from fresh produce grown in the EarthBox® gardening systems which are enhancing their diet and providing them with a fresh supply of produce daily.

Mother of Peace

 

Mother of Peace is an orphanage situated in Northriding, Johannesburg where a 1000 EarthBox® gardening systems are thriving. The orphanage are also able to sell the excess produce at a local farmers market which brings in much needed cash to supplement and help to run the affairs of their organization. The EarthBox® garden was sponsored by a generous trust.

Zandspruit

 

Zandspruit clinic is situated in Johannesburg. The produce is actively used in the clinic’s kitchen, which serves both the clinic and the community.

Milestone Creche

 

The Kids Milestone crèche which is situated in Johannesburg has 100 EarthBox® gardening systems. The crèche caters for about 120 children who have all benefited from the variety of produce harvested from the boxes.

New Nation school

 

New Nation is a site sponsored by PPC Cement. 100 EarthBox® gardening systems have been placed at the school from which the pupils are fed. The garden is flourishing beautifully and producing well.

Orange Farm

 

Orange Farm is a drop in centre also known as ‘A re kopaneng community centre’ which caters for the meals of children that are dropped off daily at the site. The EarthBox garden placed there is flourishing beautifully and has benefited the recipients tremendously.

Polokwane

 

Pulamadibogo

 

This is a primary school situated in Turfloop, where pupils assist in maintaining the EarthBox® garden there and simultaneously learning about agriculture. The produce that is harvested from the boxes is then used to add nutrients to their daily meals which they are provided through the schools feeding programme.

Turfloop Pre-School

 

This is a pre-school situated in Turfloop where boxes have been placed. The produce from the boxes is used to feed the children that attend at the Pre-school.

St Michael’s Anglican Church

 

This is a church situated in Seshego where the elderly woman assist in maintaining the garden, the church runs a feeding programme for orphaned and disadvantaged members of the community. The EarthBox® garden has added great value in providing nutritious value to their diet.

KwaZulu-Natal

 

Mother of Peace

 

Mother of Peace KwaZulu-Natal is an orphanage caters for orphans and other vulnerable groups in the community. The use of the EarthBox® gardening system at Mother of Peace uses the boxes effectively to feed their beneficiaries with a wide variety of fresh organic produce. The EarthBox® gardening systems have proven to be a sustainable and useful method of accessing such produce.

Sweetwaters

 

Sweetwaters, which is situated in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal is a central point for the people in the surrounding community to obtain EarthBox® gardening systems for their households. Most of the surrounding households have been provided with about three EarthBox® gardening systems to manage them for their own homes and personal use. There are some boxes at Sweetwaters that are used to produce fresh fruit and vegetables for those in the community that did not receive EarthBox® gardening systems. The project at Sweetwaters is working very productively and has immensely benefited the people of that community.

Imbali J

 

Imbali J is a drop in centre in KwaZulu-Natal and they use the EarthBox® gardening systems for produce to enhance the meals they prepare for the impoverished and disadvantaged individuals who obtain their daily meals there. The EarthBox® gardening systems are used productively at the site and have really assisted with the nutrition levels in the diet of those who benefit from them.

University of KwaZulu-Natal

 

The University is situated in Umsinga, the EarthBoxes placed there are used mainly for educational purposes. Members of the community are trained on farming and other agricultural methods using the EarthBox® gardening systems. The produce that is grown from the boxes is then provided to the community members to share with their families. In this community, the EarthBox® serves a dual purpose.

Siyabona

 

This site is situated between Port Shepstone and Durban where meals are cooked daily for orphans as well as for those who are affected and infected by HIV and AIDS. The EarthBox gardening systems enable the site managers to ensure that those in their care are fed a much needed healthy meal daily.
